Outlook Express and Messenger in XP : How to disable Windows Messenger ?

I formated my XP(Pro) and was trying to reinstall the same. It was easy and once i finished installing i tried the other settings. Installed the drivers and configured the Outlook.. Oops.. the windows messenger comes in .. damn I don't use this.. but its not going until i close the OE ( outlook express). I tried to eliminate this issue (Yeah by searching the net) and got a solution for the same.

Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express.
Check for a value name called Hide Messenger (data type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) ) Change the value to 2. If that particular DWORD is not there, add the same.

Exit your registry, restart the OE.

But I would prefer this messenger to be uninstalled. :)

Mail Clients( eudora - thunderbird -Outlook (express)) - prerequisites (Part 2)

As this is not a ready made content and I am typing the same in as and when possible, this is taking a lot of time. The part one of this series is available in Mail Clients( eudora - thunderbird -Outlook (express)) - Terms (Part 1)

Email Address
An email address is needed to configure your mail client( :) )

POP And SMTP address
POP address is the address of the mail server and can be obtained from the email provider.
SMTP address can be obtained from your ISp.

Filters.
Filters are been used to sort your mails .
for example you can set a filter like this. if the mail is from a particular mail address, then put in folder x
or if the to address is aaa@aaa.com then put the mail to the folder aaa

other stuffs.
You want to check the mail in regular intervals?
Want to hangup your connection after checking email?

Its all possible in the mail clients. So the main advantage of using a mail client is that you can save a lot of internet usage time by downloading the stuffs and reading it off line.

Mail Clients( eudora - thunderbird -Outlook (express)) - Terms (Part 1)

Aim of the series is to try configuring the mail client/clients.

Part 1.

There are certain terms we used to say when reffering to a mail client. Lets check them here

1. Mail Client
Mail client is the program we uses to fetch our mail from servers
A complete list of email clients are here |-list of email clients-|

2. POP3
Post Office Protocol - Version 3 (POP3) is intended to permit a workstation or a computer to retrieve mail that the server is holding for it.

3. SMTP
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is used to transfer mail reliably and efficiently.

4. IMAP
The Internet Message Access Protocol, Version 4 (IMAP4) allows a client to access and manipulate electronic mail messages on a server. IMAP4 permits manipulation of remote message folders, called "mailboxes", in a way that is functionally equivalent to local mailboxes.

5. Mail Accounts
When multiple mail are configured in the client then we manage them as accounts.( Name vary from client to client)

We don't have to blow our head when we hear the word POP and SMTP. Just keep in mind that POP is a number(server address) that we used to access the mail from our webmail.

And SMTP will be same for all the accounts we create and its been provided by the ISP (Internet Service Provider).

To be continued...
